Karimunda black pepper is a rare, high-quality variety cultivated in the Wayanad region of Kerala, India. Native to the ancestral Western Ghats mountain range in the Cardamom Hills, this pepper is grown using traditional methods without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. The peppercorns are harvested by hand and sun-dried to preserve their essential oils and deep black colour, which is similar to cocoa.
Historically, the peppercorns were so solid that they were once used as ammunition in rifles. Today, it is recognized for its intense and robust taste, making it one of the most esteemed peppers in the world.
This black pepper is highly versatile and pairs well with fish, seafood, and meat.
For optimal flavours, grind this pepper over your plate just before serving, using an appropriate pepper mill.
