Dried shiitake mushrooms are highly prized in cooking for their intense flavour and their ability to enhance a wide variety of dishes.
Native to Asia, they have been used for centuries, particularly in Japanese and Chinese cuisine, where they are regarded as an ingredient that is both delicious and beneficial to health.
Uses:
Soak the dried mushrooms in boiling water for 15 minutes.
Then rinse thoroughly.
They work perfectly in soups, ramen, risottos or stews. Once rehydrated, their texture remains slightly firm, adding texture to dishes.
They can also be stir-fried with vegetables, incorporated into stuffings or used to flavour vegetarian dishes as a meat substitute.
For a unique twist, try incorporating some miso powder and prepare the traditional soy-based soup, enhancing it with the dehydrated shiitake mushrooms.
