Prepare all the ingredients.
Mince carrots and onions.
Sweat in butter with crushed garlic, celeri stick, bouquet garni and diced lard without browning.
Add tomatoes that have been peeled, seeded and crushed.
Sweat for a few minutes and add gradually consommé or cold water.
Bring to a boil, add rice...
...and cook for 40 minutes.
Mix and adjust consistancy with a bit more water or consommé.
Incorporate butter using a whisk and adjust seasoning.
Prepare warm soup plates for serving.
Fill each plate 3/4 full.
Decorate the plates using some diced tomato and chervil sprigs.
Serve immediately.
